ISTANBUL.- Received as a hero, the Egyptian star Mohamed Salahfree since his departure from Liverpoolcame to Türkiye this Wednesday to sign for the Trabzonsporwhich convinced him with an XXL contract of almost 20 million dollars per season.
The 34-year-old forward landed around 09:00 GMT at the airport Atatürk of Istanbul, before being received outside by hundreds of crazy fans, AFP journalists confirmed.
“I come straight from work, I work at night and I am ready to spend a second sleepless night for Mohamed Salah,” Abdul Kerim Yervan, a Trabzonspor fan, told AFP, next to a banner calling the Egyptian a ‘gift from Allah’.
“Salah mode activated,” Trabzonspor had previously written on X, sharing photos of the player aboard a private plane wearing the blue and maroon shirt of the Black Sea team.
The club of Trabzon (northeast), qualified for the playoff round of the Europa Leagueannounced on Tuesday that he had started “negotiations” with the Egyptian superstar, who left Liverpool after nine seasons full of titles and goals.
Medical examination in Istanbul
Salah underwent a medical examination this Wednesday in Istanbul before flying to Trabzon in the afternoon, where he was greeted by a larger crowd, careful not to use flares so as not to disrupt air traffic.
The attacker signed a two-season contract and will receive 17 million euros (19.6 million dollars) per year, according to several Turkish media.
“I’m really happy… and I’m looking forward to training with the team. Wherever I go, I win or try to win something… I hope we can achieve great things in the league and also in the European Cup,” declared the Egyptian amidst the noise upon his arrival in Trabzon, while his club “welcome the King of Egypt” in X.
