The US Supreme Court had previously confirmed a law passed by the US Congress in the spring of last year. This stipulates that the service must disappear from the app stores on Sunday if the Chinese parent company Bytedance does not sell it beforehand. However, its implementation remained questionable: The White House stated that the question of implementation would be left to the future President Donald Trump.
Trump, who rejects a ban and begins his second term as US president on Monday, said on his online service Truth Social that the Supreme Court’s decision was to be expected and must be respected. “I will make my decision on TikTok in the not too distant future, but I need time to review the situation,” he wrote. He previously spoke on the phone with Chinese head of state Xi Jinping on Friday and, according to his own statements, exchanged ideas with him about Tiktok, among other things.
