They capture “Nini”, head of security for the children of “El Chapo” Guzmán

MEXICO CITY.- Mexican authorities arrested on Wednesday in the north of the country a man identified as the alleged head of security for the children of former Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, for whom The United States offered a reward of three million dollars.

During an operation that was carried out in the northern city of Culiacán, state of Sinaloa, Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, alias “El Nini”, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Detention Registry of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection.

The arrest of Pérez Salas was also confirmed by a federal agent who did not offer more details because the operation is still in progress.

US authorities have identified Pérez Salas, 30, as the alleged head of security for the children of “El Chapo.”

The arrest occurs two months after the extradition to the United States of Ovidio Guzmán López, son of “El Chapo”, who was arrested last January also in Culiacán in a strong operation by military and police forces.

Guzmán López was extradited five months after US prosecutors released indictments against him and his brothers, known collectively as “Los Chapitos.”

The indictments detail how the brothers, after their father’s extradition and conviction in the United States in 2019, focused the cartel’s operation on synthetic drugs such as methamphetamine and the powerful opioid fentanyl.
