BUENOS AIRES.- Argentine police arrested in Buenos Aires to a person accused of participating in the assassination last year of Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe TurbayThe Minister of Security reported this Wednesday.

Brayan Ferney Cruz Castillo, who had a red notice from Interpol, is identified as one of those responsible for the logistics of the homicide against Uribe Turbay that occurred in 2025. “Today he is in prison and the procedures for his prompt expulsion have already begun,” the Minister of Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, said in a video on X.

The murder of the senator, who died on August 11, 2025, caused a strong impact in Colombia as he was a high-profile political leader. The event also revived the memory of the 1980s and 1990s, periods marked by political violence and the assassinations of public leaders.

So far, authorities have arrested at least nine people linked to the case. The investigations point to the existence of a structure of hitmen who would have coordinated the execution of the attack, although investigators continue working to clarify the motivations behind the murder.

A court in Bogotá sentenced Carlos Mora González to 21 years in prison, identified as one of those involved in the murder of Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a crime that occurred in June 2025 during a political event in the capital.

The judicial decision comes a few days after another defendant in the case, Katherine Martínez, received a similar sentence for her participation in the events.

The sentence was handed down after Mora González, known by the alias “Veneco”, accepted his responsibility for the crimes charged after reaching an agreement with the Attorney General’s Office (Colombia). The defendant admitted to aggravated charges of homicide, conspiracy to commit a crime and illegal manufacture, trafficking and possession of firearms.
