Miami.- A 28-year-old science professor was arrested Thursday after being allegedly surprised when he had sex with a minor student in his classroom.
Edian Villar, who worked as a teacher at JC Bermúdez Doral Senior High School, was discovered by another teacher at 3:30 in the afternoon, while supposedly he held an “illegal sexual activity” with a 17 -year -old student in his classroom.
According to the police report, the witness walked through a large closet shared to the Villar classroom, where he found him “standing behind the victim with the pants on his ankles.”
The witness immediately reported what had witnessed the director of the school, who accompanied Villar to the office. Later, the officers went to the victim’s house and interviewed her in her mother’s presence.
What did the student say
During the interview with the researchers, the student revealed that she had held multiple sexual meetings with Villar in her classroom throughout the school year.
The teenager described how the relationship gradually evolved: “The victim explained that the relationship began as a normal teacher and student relationship, and then progressed during the school year as the accused was treated in a special way and showed him attention,” according to the report of the Miami-Dade School Police.
The young woman also said she considered Villar “great, not like the other teachers”, and that he allowed him to participate in his school clubs. This dynamic of special attention seems to have been part of the teacher’s approach to the student, according to preliminary investigations.
Arrest and legal charges
After the complaint, Villar was put in custody after his rights were read, at which time he requested the representation of a lawyer.
Subsequently, the teacher was transported to the Police Headquarters of the Miami-Dade Schools and then transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) correctional center.
Prison records show that the teacher faces charges of illegal sexual activity with a minor, child abuse without great bodily damage, offenses against students by authority figures and contribution to the crime of a minor.
In the early hours of this Friday, Villar remained detained in TGK, where his bond was “to establish.”
SCHOOL DISTRICT RESPONSE
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools issued a statement in which they expressed concern about the episode involving the teacher.
“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is disturbed by the disturbing accusations made against this individual. Upon learning of this suspicious conduct, the Miami-Dade School Police immediately began their investigation and subsequently made an arrest,” he said.
I add: “This type of behavior will not be tolerated since it is contrary to the professional behavior we expect from all employees. The district has initiated employment termination procedures and will ensure that the individual is prevented from seeking future employment with the district.”
This case adds to a worrying series of similar incidents in the Miami-Dade area in recent years, where several educators have been arrested for inappropriate sexual behavior with students.
