The USA attacks for the first time under Trump Huthis in Yemen – Miliz reports over 30 deaths

For the first time since President Donald Trump took office, the United States flew attacks on the Huthi militia in Yemen. Trump announced a “decisive and strong military campaign” on Sunday night to end the attacks of the militia supported by Iran on ships in the Red Sea. According to the Huthis, more than 30 people were killed. In response, the Huthis claimed to attack a US aircraft carrier with accompanying ships in the Red Sea.

Since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023, the Huthi-Miliz had repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden as well as destinations in Israel with drones and rockets-according to its own statements “out of solidarity” with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. After an interruption since the beginning of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on January 19, the militia threatened on Tuesday with new attacks on Israeli ships, also in the Arab Sea and on the street of Baba al-Mandab.

Trump then announced in his online service Truth Social to apply “overwhelming deadly violence” to reach an end to the attacks. “To all Huthi terrorists, your time has expired, your attacks have to stop from today,” he wrote. If this does not happen, “hell will break off”.

A photographer of the AFP news agency heard three explosions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa during the night and saw large clouds of smoke. According to the Ministry of Health of the Huthis, at least 31 people were killed in the attacks in Sanaa and in other regions of Yemen and injured more than a hundred more, “most of them children and women”.

The Huthi-Miliz announced on Sunday that it “attacked the US aircraft carrier” Uss Harry Truman “” in response to this aggression “and accompanied them in the Red Sea with 18 rockets and a drone. There was initially no confirmation from the US side.

In a television speech, the Huthi leader Abdulmalik Al-Huthi also threatened attacks on US freight ships in the Red Sea. For Monday, he called on his compatriots to take the street “millions of times”.

The United Nations called on the US armed forces and the Huthi militia to stop “all military activities” after the fatal attacks and the threats of retaliation. “We are concerned with concern the numerous attacks on areas in Yemen controlled by the Huthis through the United States”, which reports reported to dead and injuries, said a spokesman for UN General Secretary António Guterres. “We are just as concerned about the uninterrupted threats of the Huthis to resume their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.”

Trump also threatened Iran: he asked Tehran to immediately stop support for the Huthi militia. Otherwise, the USA would “fully account for” – “and we won’t be nice,” warned the US President.

The Huthi militia spoke of “American-British aggression” and threatened retribution. The attacks would “not remain unanswered,” she announced in her television station al-Masirah. The Huthi fighters are well prepared to “counter an escalation with escalation”.

Iran condemned the “barbaric air raids of the United States”. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi wrote in online service X that the United States “had no right” to specify Tehran’s foreign policy. The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, said that Iran did not want to wage war – but in the event of a threat, he would react “appropriate” and “decisively”.

Trump’s security advisor Mike Waltz said on Sunday in ABC News on Sunday that several leaders of the Huthis were “targeted and switched off” in the attacks. With the attacks, the US government also made it clear to Iran “that the measure is full,” said Waltz at Fox News.

US defense minister Pete Hegseth announced “relentless” rocket attacks in the Fox Business station until the attacks of the Huthis stopped. “This campaign deals with the freedom of shipping and the restoration of the deterrent,” he added.

The US military command Centcom, which is responsible for the Middle East, spoke of “precision attacks” with the aim of “defending American interests, detaching enemies and restoring freedom of shipping”.

According to Moscow, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrow in advance about the attacks on the Huthis on a phone call. Lavrow then called for an “immediate end of the use of violence” and suggested a “political dialogue” to “find a solution that prevents further bloodshed,” said the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Huthi militia controls large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. Like the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, the Huthis belong to the “axis of resistance” listed by Iran and against Israel and the USA.
