MIAMI.- A few days before the start of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the Cuban team continues to face setbacks that complicate its preparation for the event.
This Wednesday it was announced in the regime’s news that the president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, and the former pitcher and current pitching coach Pedro Luis Lazo, were denied visas to participate in the baseball event.
The news adds to a series of casualties and organizational difficulties that have marked the weeks prior to the tournament, generating uncertainty around the Cuban team, considered by various analyzes to be one of the most weakened teams facing the competition.
Cuba will compete in the group based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where it will seek to advance to the next phase against high-level rivals.
As part of its preparation, the team plans to travel next week to Arizona, United States, where it will play friendly matches against Major League organizations. Among the confirmed commitments are games against the Kansas City Royals and the Cincinnati Reds.
