The suspect in the attack on the Temple Israel synagogue, located in the municipality of West Bloomfield, Michigan, is an American man of Lebanese origin who reportedly lost family members in the Israeli attacks, within the framework of the regional escalation of the Iran conflict.
According to the US network Fox, the Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that the attacker has been identified as Ayman Mohamed Ghazali, a 41-year-old man, a US citizen of Lebanese origin.
As a possible motive for the crime, the mayor of Dearborn Heights, Mo Baydoun, pointed out that the attacker who lived in the city lost family members in Lebanon in the context of the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East, the aforementioned channel has indicated.
The suspect rammed a vehicle into the synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, and a shooting subsequently occurred in the area. He was found dead by police authorities inside the vehicle after an exchange of gunfire with security guards present at the location, where there is also a daycare center and a school.
The incident left no fatalities, US authorities have confirmed, although a security guard had to be taken to the hospital for treatment after suffering injuries from the attack, according to CNN. The agents found a large amount of explosives in the rear of the vehicle, where a fire would have broken out.
