BOGOTA — The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), as of August 16, reported that the emergency due to the earthquake of August 10 leaves 289 people dead, 4,187 injured and 143 missing.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit western Colombia impacted 450 municipalities in 15 departments, with a report of approximately 185,016 people affected.
Among the regions with the greatest consequences are Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda, Caldas and Quindío, where care, search and recovery efforts continue.
The balance also records 354 people rescued, while relief agencies maintain operations in different points where there are still reports of missing people.

Cali and Pereira
In the report available from the capitals, Cali recorded 111 deaths, 1,416 injuries and 77 missing people, while Pereira reported 95 deaths, 259 injuries and missing people, although these territorial figures were subject to verification and updating.
The figures of deceased and missing people are compared with information from Forensic Medicine and the Prosecutor’s Office, while the records of injured people are verified with the health sector.
While the search and care efforts continue, the authorities continue to call on the population to only follow the official information and recommendations of the risk management organizations, especially in areas where structural damage and risk conditions persist.
