The Milwaukee Brewers win their first World Series

The Milwaukee Brewers won the World Series by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in game five, a victory that allowed them to close the series and celebrate the first championship in their history. Milwaukee backed up its victory with a timely offense and the dominance of its pitching staff, on a night that will be marked by concerns surrounding Jacob Misiorowski.

The Brewers took the lead in the second inning, when Cooper Pratt hit an RBI single. David Hamilton widened the lead in the fifth inning and William Contreras added another run with an RBI double in the sixth. Later, Pratt contributed again with a sacrifice fly to increase Milwaukee’s lead and bring the team closer to the celebration.

The negative note for the champions was the departure of Misiorowski, who left the game due to discomfort in his left leg after working 5.2 innings without allowing runs, with two hits, a walk and two strikeouts.

JoJo Romero came on in relief to preserve the lead. The right-hander’s injury partially tarnished a historic night for Milwaukee, which finally reached the top of Major League Baseball.

The championship represents the first World Series title for the Milwaukee Brewers in their second appearance in the Fall Classic. The franchise had played its first final in 1982, when it lost in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. At that time, Milwaukee belonged to the American League, while St. Louis represented the National League. The Brewers moved to the National League in 1998, as part of the reorganization of Major League Baseball.
