"That must be illegal": Trump attacks the media sharply for criticism of him

In a speech in the Ministry of Justice, US President Donald Trump sharply attacked critically reporting media and political opponents on Friday. Trump accused the news channels CNN and MSNBC as well as not named newspapers to report “to 97.6 percent bad” about him and added: “That must stop, that must be illegal.” Trump also announced that it would act against “corrupt forces” within the Ministry of Justice.

Trump described the media he criticized as “political arms of the democratic party.” And in my opinion they are really corrupt and illegal. “

Trump, who claims freedom of speech for himself, has been at the war with him critically hired media and publishers for years. Already during his first presidential candidacy and his first term, Trump had repeatedly attacked journalists sharply.

In mid-February, the US government announced that it would decide which media were given access to certain events and trips from the US President in the future. The White House broke with a decade -old tradition. So far, the government -independent White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) had decided on the composition of the so -called pool: the group of journalists who report on the nearby from the Oval Office or when the president’s travels.

Trump, the first convicted criminal in the White House, also used his speech in the Ministry of Justice to attack his predecessor Joe Biden. The ministry had instrumentalized the latter to act against it. “Our predecessors have transformed the Ministry of Justice into a ministry of injustice,” said Trump. “Today I am standing in front of them to explain that these times are over and will never come again.”

Trump announced an investigation into his opponents within the Ministry of Justice. “We have to be honest with the lies and abuse that have taken place within these walls.” His government will “drive out the corrupt forces from our government, we will (…) uncover their outrageous crimes and their serious misconduct,” said the US President.

Trump was charged in a total of four criminal proceedings in 2023. However, he was only convicted of a former porn actress in the procedure for the payment of silence – but the sentence imposed does not provide a punishment, but only maintains the conviction.

Two further procedures against Trump were discontinued. The procedure conducted in Georgia because of his attempts to tip his election defeat in 2020 is on ice.

On his first day in office, Trump pardoned more than 1500 of those involved in the storm on the Capitol in Washington. The attack on the congress seat had been taken after Trump whipped his followers with the false assertion that his defeat against Biden in the presidential election in November 2020 had come about.
