PARIS-. Iga Swiatek defeated on Thursday 6-2, 6-4 Coco Gauff in the semifinals of the French Open and extended his winning streak in the tournament to 20.
The world number one is trying to win her fourth championship in five years at Roland Garros, and become the first woman to win three since Justine Henin 2007-2009.
Swiatek was 11-1 in her direct history against Gauff, the third seed and reigning US Open champion. The Polish star has defeated the American in three consecutive editions of the Grand Slam on clay, including the 2022 final and in the quarterfinals last year.
In the title match on Saturday, Swiatek will face either Mirra Andreeva or Jasmine Paolini. Andreeva is a 17-year-old Russian who has just left number two Aryna Sabalenka behind. Paolini, seeded 12th, is a 28-year-old Italian who is having the best season of her career.
Swiatek is 4-0 in Slam finals and has looked imperial over the past two weeks.
Except for a set victory in the second round against Naomi Osaka, champion of four majors, and in which she even saved a match point, Swiatek has only given up 17 games in her other five matches.
