Sweden crushes Tunisia and takes over the lead in Group F

The Swedish team had a strong performance by beating Tunisia 5-1 at the Monterrey stadium and taking the lead in Group F of the 2026 World Cup, also taking advantage of the 2-2 draw between the Netherlands and Japan.

The great protagonist of the match was Yasin Ayari, who scored a double against his family’s country of origin. The midfielder opened the scoring just after 7 minutes and closed the score in added time. Between both goals, Alexander Isak extended the Swedish lead in the 30th minute, while Viktor Gyökeres and Mattias Svanberg completed the rout.

Tunisia managed to pull one back before the break thanks to Omar Rekik, who scored with a header in the 43rd minute to keep African hopes alive. However, a defensive error by captain Ellyes Skhiri at the beginning of the second half facilitated the third Swedish goal, the work of Gyökeres, and finally tipped the balance definitively.

Svanberg made it 4-1 in the 84th minute, just seconds after entering the field, before Ayari sealed the win at 90+6.

The match brought together 50,987 fans in Monterrey, where some sectors of the fans expressed their discontent with the hydration breaks through boos.

With this result, Sweden takes the lead in Group F and takes an important step towards the round of 16, while Tunisia is forced to react in its next matches to maintain its chances of qualifying.
