Spanish congresswoman raises her voice: “I accuse Nicolás Maduro of committing crimes against humanity”

MADRID.- From the podium of Congress of Spain, the parliamentarian Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo gave a speech that has been applauded inside and outside the European country, for the forcefulness with which he argued the Venezuelan reality after the electoral fraud committed by the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro on July 28.

“Ladies and gentlemen: On behalf of my Parliamentary Group and on International Human Rights Day, I accuse Nicolás Maduro and his criminal court of committing crimes against humanity that deserve the maximum punishment of the International Criminal Court. But also those who they close their eyes, look the other way or drag their feet in the face of relentless tyranny,” he said.

Likewise, he denounced the unjustified arrests committed by the regime towards the civilian population, highlighting the torture to which children, pregnant women and the elderly have been subjected.

“There are still 70 other children and adolescents like her. And more than 1,900 adults. Pregnant women. Elderly people. Even disabled people.”

In his words, Álvarez de Toledo referred to the International Community maintaining silence and being complicit in the regime’s excessive actions. “Where are the diplomatic corps of European and Western democracies? Enjoying the paradisiacal Venezuelan beaches? Preparing for Christmas? And where is the Vatican? Not a single priest has passed by there.”

He also referred to the role of Pedro Sánchez’s government and its little action. “I I accuse the Government of Spain. Not only has he ignored the decision of this Chamber, which on September 11 – 3 months ago today – urged him to recognize Edmundo González as the elected president of Venezuela. (Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we had the intelligence to be decent). Not only has he disregarded the truth recorded in the minutes and the sovereign will of a brother people. On top of that, he takes us for idiots. Mr. Albares said the other day: ‘I have seen allusions in the press, but Edmundo González has not directly asked me to recognize him as president.'”

He also mentioned the businessmen who maintain ties with the regime. “I I accuse the businessmen – and the lobbyists and the commission agents– who continue to do business with the dictatorship,” continued the popular deputy, “who put their economic interests before the lives of millions of people. who treat Delcy Rodriguez as if she were the minister of a government, in short, slightly authoritarian, and not the leader of a criminal organization.
