Spain returned to first place in the FIFA ranking after winning the World Cup 2026 with their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final held in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Winning the title allowed La Roja to regain a lead they had lost in April and move the Albiceleste to second place in the standings.
The Spanish team reached 1,995.88 points, while Argentina was left with 1,970.37 points, a difference of 25 points between the two. France maintained third position and completed the podium of the classification published by FIFA after the closing of the World Cup.

The tournament also changed the panorama of the Top 10. Mexico climbed four positions to be in tenth place and returned to the group of the ten best teams, while Germany left that area after falling two places after its elimination in the round of 32.
Brazil, Morocco and Belgium improved one position in the ranking, while Portugal fell two places and the Netherlands lost one place compared to the last update of the ranking.
Among the biggest beneficiaries of their performance in the World Cup were Switzerland and Norway. The Swiss moved up five places to fourteenth place, while Norway had one of the biggest rises, rising twelve places to 19th place, its best position since 2011.
Cape Verde also capitalized on its historic participation in the World Cup by moving up three places to 64th position, after reaching the round of 32 in its World Cup debut.
At the other end of the rankings, Tunisia suffered the steepest drop after losing twelve positions and dropping to 57th place after a tournament marked by poor results and even a change of coach. Panama, Uzbekistan and Jordan also registered significant declines, with a loss of ten places each after their discreet performance in the World Cup.
