CHATEAUROUX-. Two female shooters from South Korea broke the record Olympic champion in the 10-metre air pistol event, taking home the gold and silver medals on Sunday.
Oh Ye Jin took gold with a score of 243.2 points, outpacing her teammate Kim Yeji with 241.3 points. Eight of Oh’s last nine throws earned at least 10 points out of a possible total of 10.9.
Bronze went to India’s Manu Bhaker, who finished her participation with 221.7 points. It was the first medal for that country at the Paris 2024 Games and its first in women’s shooting.
The previous Olympic record for a women’s 10m air pistol final was 240.3, set by Russian shooter Vitalina Batsarashkina in Tokyo three years ago. Batsarashkina is not among the small number of Russian athletes competing in Paris as individual neutral athletes.
Oh’s gold medal was the first in shooting at the 2024 Olympics won by a country other than China, which claimed its first gold of the Games on Saturday and added a second on Sunday in the men’s 10-meter air pistol.
Xie Yu scored 240.9 for the gold medal. Italy’s Federico Nilo Maldini took silver with 240 and his compatriot Paolo Monna, who had been leading until halfway through the competition, took bronze with 218.6, after some costly errors.
