MIAMI – The start of the year brings adjustments to payment schedules for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security recipients.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirmed that certain payments will be advanced due to holidays and weekends, which will generate an unusual scheme for the first months of 2025.
Modified calendar for January and February
SSI payments, aimed at people with disabilities and older adults with limited resources, are typically issued on the first day of each month. However, due to the New Year holiday, the January payment will be delivered on December 31, 2024. Similarly, the February payment will be advanced to January 31, since February 1 is a Saturday.
Besides, The payment corresponding to March will be issued on February 28, which leaves no disbursement in March, although the beneficiaries will have already received the amount in advance.. Normal payments will be restored in April, Social Security reported.
SSI Beneficiaries:
- January payment: December 31, 2024.
- February payment: January 31, 2025.
Social Security Beneficiaries:
- Profits prior to May 1997: January 3.
- Birthdays between 1 and 10: January 8.
- Birthdays between the 11th and the 20th: January 15.
- Birthdays between the 21st and 31st: January 22.
Financial impact and new limits on payments
The maximum SSI payment for 2025 will be $967 per month for individuals and $1,450 for couples. These amounts could be adjusted depending on the beneficiary’s income, the economic situation of their household or the state support they may receive.
For their part, Social Security beneficiaries will see the cost of living adjustment (COLA) of 2.5% reflected, a lower percentage than that registered in the last two years, due to declining inflation, according to the White House.
Considerations for beneficiaries
Although adjustments to the calendar will not affect the total amount beneficiaries will receive throughout the year, some may need to reorganize their budgets due to payment date changes in the early months of 2025.
These changes reflect SSA’s commitment to ensuring payments arrive on time, even in the face of schedule challenges. Recipients are advised to monitor payment dates and contact SSA in case of delays or problems with receiving funds.
