The Italian Jannik Sinnerrecent champion of Wimbledonexpressed his wish that Carlos Alcaraz return to the courts soon after his absence due to injury, ensuring that “tennis needs him.” The world number one regretted that the Spaniard missed the last two Grand Slams due to problems with his right wrist and highlighted the importance of having the best players on the circuit.
Alcaraz has remained away from the competition since April, when he had to withdraw during the Barcelona tournament due to an injury to his right wrist. His loss at Roland Garros and Wimbledon caused him to lose second place in the ATP ranking, now in the hands of Alexander Zverev, who became champion in Paris and reached the final of the British Grand Slam.
Zverev, Djokovic and Sinner’s new challenges
During his appearance, Sinner also praised the German tennis player, whom he considers one of his main rivals on the circuit. The Italian highlighted the constant evolution of Zverev’s game and assured that facing him forces him to push his tennis to the limit, in addition to recognizing the effort and work behind his results.
However, the current Wimbledon champion made it clear that the fight for the big titles is not limited only to Alcaraz and Zverev. Sinner recalled that Novak Djokovic continues to be a serious contender in the most important tournaments and highlighted the emergence of young talents who are raising the level of competition on the men’s circuit.
