In a tight match between the first and third in the world ranking, without the presence in this tournament of the number two, the Spanish Carlos Alcarazabsent due to injury, Sinner won 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3 and 6-4.
After his victory, Sinner, 24, acknowledged having felt “nerves on Sunday morning, since it is a very special place,” he said.
“You never know how many times you’re going to come back here. I never take it for granted,” he added.
Sinner and Zverev, before the gaze of the princes of Welsh, William and Catherineand two of his three children, starred in a close duel, lasting 3 hours and 46 minutes, in which it was necessary to wait until the thirty-fourth game of the match for one of the finalists to break his rival’s serve.
At that moment, the Italian broke Zverev’s serve in the third set, opening the way to defeat the German, who won the first set in June. grand slam of his career, at 29 years old, by taking over Roland Garros.

Sinner praised the German’s good game.

Zverev had his first and only advantage to break Sinner’s serve in the seventh game of the third set, but slipped when the Italian executed a dropshot.
Zverev overtakes Alcaraz

Sinner, with his victory, pocketed prize money of 3.6 million pounds ($4.8 million), while Zverev took home 1.8 million pounds ($2.4 million).
