Sinner believes it is impossible to reach the number 1 ranking in 2025

The N.2 of men’s tennis Jannik Sinnerto which Carlos Alcaraz snatched the No. 1 in September, assessed on Tuesday that it is “impossible” for him to regain the throne before the end of the season.

“It’s impossible. Honestly, I’m not thinking about it for now, it will be a goal for next year,” declared the Italian at a press conference, before his entry into the fray at the Paris Masters 1000.

With less than 1,000 points difference, Sinner can theoretically surpass Alcaraz if he wins the tournament and the Spaniard is eliminated in the first rounds.

But then he will have to defend the 1,500 points from the Turin ATP Finals, which he won in 2024, while Alcaraz fell in the group stage.

The outcome of the duel for world No. 1 “is not in my hands,” Sinner insisted.

“If I look at my season in general, we have achieved incredible things, and my only wish is to finish the year in the best possible way,” concluded the four-time winner of a Grand Slam tournament, which this year was held in January with the Australian Open and in July with Wimbledon.

Even if he hasn’t had “much time to recover” since the final of the ATP 500 in Vienna, won on Sunday despite his cramps during the third set, Sinner said he felt good physically.

At the Paris Masters 1000, his best result is the round of 16 in 2023.

“I have never played well” at the Paris Masters 1000, he highlighted. “This year I hope to be able to change certain things.”

The Italian will enter the fray on Wednesday on center court against the Belgian Zizou Bergs (N.41).
