Serena Williams says she had a benign cyst removed from her neck

NEW YORK.- Serena Williams reported that they had removed a benign cyst “the size of a small grape” in the area of the neck and “that everything was fine.”

The retired American tennis player, who turned 43 last month, posted on social media on Wednesday that a lump had been found in her neck last May, she had an MRI and was told she did not need to remove it if I didn’t want to. So it didn’t, “but it kept growing,” Williams said.

After having more tests, including a biopsy that came back negative for cancer, her doctors told her she should undergo a procedure.

Williams showed a video of herself in a hospital bed and wrote: “So here I am taking it off. “I feel very grateful and lucky that everything turned out well and, above all, I am healthy.”

In a separate message, he said he was “continuing to recover, but improving. “Health always comes first.”

Williams announced her retirement, avoiding using that term and instead saying she was “evolving” away from professional tennis, shortly before playing the US Open in 2022, her final tournament.

She won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by a woman in the sport’s professional era, and another 14 in doubles with her older sister Venus. Serena spent more than 300 weeks as number one in the WTA rankings and won four Olympic gold medals.

Mexico stops bad streak

Raúl Jiménez scored from a free kick in the 22nd minute and created the play for César Huerta’s goal in the 49th, as Mexico ended a streak of seven games without beating the United States, winning 2-0 in a friendly match on Tuesday .

Mexico had accumulated five losses and two draws against the United States since September 2019. They won this time, in what was Argentine Mauricio Pochettino’s second match at the head of the American squad.

Without Christian Pulisic and other regular starters, the United States did not take a single shot in the first half, something that had not happened since a friendly match played in April 2023, also against El Tri.
