Sabalenka gains strength as the number one racket on the planet

MIAMI.- After becoming champion in Brisbane, the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka extended his lead at the top of the ranking WTA taking more than 1,500 points ahead of her escort, the Polish Iga Swiatek, according to the classification published this Monday by the rector of world women’s tennis.

The two-time champion of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year that began its preliminary rounds this Monday, has 1,536 points more than Swiatek, whom she dethroned at the end of October.

The count has little change in the first 20 places.

17-year-old Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva, eliminated in the semi-finals by Sabalenka in Brisbane, is ranked 15th, the highest of her career so far.

While for Latin America, the rise of the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, 16th, stands out, benefiting from the drop of two places by the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.

The American Madison Keys, US Open finalist in 2017, returns to the Top 20, to the detriment of the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.

Japan’s Naomi Osaka, who withdrew from the Auckland final due to injury on Sunday, returns to the Top 50 (50th).
