With the end of the ceasefire, the Russian armed forces continued “the special military operation”, the Russian military explained using the Russian name for the Ukraine War.
From the Ukrainian side it was said that Russia had resumed air strikes and attacked various regions of the country. The regional governors of Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolajiw wrote in the online service Telegram of attacks. Sacrifice were initially not recorded. The Ukrainian Air Force said that 42 Russian attack drones shot down on Monday night.
Putin surprisingly announced a 30-hour “Easter caffeine” on Saturday, which was to last until Sunday at midnight (local time, 11:00 p.m. CEST). The Kremlin boss founded the step with “humanitarian reasons”.
Selenskyj agreed to comply if Moscow should do this too. On Sunday, however, he accused Russia of more than 2,000 violations of the ceasefire. Moscow also complained of violations of the “Easter creation of arms”. Journalists from the AFP news agency reported on the front of a somewhat quieter location.
Selenskyj said that after all, there was “no air alarm” on Easter Sunday. For his part, he proposed to refrain from attacking any attacks with drones with great reach and rockets for civilian infrastructure for “at least 30 days”. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow told Russian news agencies on Sunday that Putin had “no command” to extend the ceasefire beyond midnight.
From China it was said on Monday that Beijing greet “all efforts” for an attitude of the fights. A ceasefire is a necessary step on the way to peace, said foreign office spokesman Guo Jiakun.
Putin’s announcement of the 30-hour ceasefire on Saturday was threatened by US President Trump with the United States’ exit from the Ukraine negotiations. On Sunday, Trump now said in his online service Truth Social to hope for an agreement to end the fights in Ukraine “this week”. He did not provide any further information on possible progress in the negotiations.
In the election campaign, Trump had initially declared that he could end the Ukraine war within 24 hours. Later he named six months as a period of time. On February 12, Trump agreed on a “immediate” start of talks after a phone call with Kremlin boss Putin. Negotiations with representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia at the end of March did not make a breakthrough. Putin rejected a proposal for an unconditional ceasefire presented by the USA and Ukraine.
