The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, accused Iran on Monday of taking the world “hostage” with its attacks and insisted that Washington is advancing its war objectives.
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, killing the murderous Islamic leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ordered the massacre of more than 35,000 people in the country’s streets as millions came out to protest the regime and demand freedom.
Since then, Iran has launched waves of missiles and drones against Israel and several Gulf Arab countries, and even against Azerbaijan and Cyprus, where there are American bases or forces.
“We are seeing right now the threat that this regime represents for the region and the world. “They are trying to hold the world hostage,” Rubio said at an event at the State Department.
Iran’s terrorism
“They are attacking neighboring countries, their energy infrastructure, their civilian population,” Rubio accused.
“The goal of this mission is to destroy their ability to continue doing that, and we are well on our way to achieving that,” he added.
Rubio was speaking at an event honoring unjustly detained Americans and hostages. He was accompanied by relatives of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who disappeared in 2007 on the Iranian island of Kish.
The United States concluded in 2020 that the Iranian government was involved in his death.
Levinson was officially on a mission to investigate cigarette counterfeiting rackets.
His case is “a particular reminder of the nature of the regime we are dealing with in Tehran,” Rubio said.
