MADRID.- The businessman Enrique Riquelme took a first step this Thursday to stand for election to the presidency of the real Madrid by officially communicating his intention to run, although he has until Saturday to decide if he finally makes his candidacy effective.
In a communication to the Real Madrid electoral board, published by several local newspapers, Riquelme shows his “willingness to run as a candidate” in the Real Madrid elections.
The businessman now has until Saturday, when the deadline for submitting candidatures ends, to officially formalize his candidacy and confirm that he is running for office.
On Wednesday, this businessman in the renewable energy sector had announced that this Thursday they would send the documentation to comply with Real Madrid’s electoral regulations, but “then we will have to see if we take the step on Saturday.”
If he finally makes his candidacy official on Saturday, Riquelme would be the first candidate to run in an election against the current president. Florentino Perez in his second stage at the head of the merengue team.
Since his return to the presidency in 2009, when he was the only candidate who ran, Pérez has revalidated his mandate without opposition in 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025.
Maguire reveals he will not be with England
