Remarkable success against Trump: Republican Nikki Haley wins primary in Vermont

In the US Republican primaries, presidential candidate Nikki Haley achieved a respectable success in the state of Vermont. Former President Donald Trump's intra-party rival won the state in the northeast of the United States in a close race on Super Tuesday. The major US broadcasters proclaimed the former ambassador to the United Nations the winner in Vermont hours after the polls closed.

However, this success – Haley's second primary victory after the one in the capital district of Washington DC on Sunday – is likely to be more symbolic in nature. In the primaries on “Super Tuesday,” Trump won in at least eleven of the 15 states where voting took place. It is therefore almost certain that he will win the Republican presidential race and challenge incumbent Joe Biden in the presidential election on November 5th.
