US President Donald Trump is considering a visit to Turkey on Thursday, should there be direct conversations between Ukraine and Russia. This is possible if he had the impression that things could move, Trump said on Monday in Washington before a three -day trip to the Golf region.
The US President will be expected in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates from Tuesday. From there he could continue to fly to Turkey, said Trump. “I have so many meetings, but I was thinking about flying there.”
Turkey had offered itself in the stuck negotiations on a ceasefire as an intermediary between Russia and Ukraine. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan invited both parties to direct talks in his country.

The US State Department said that Foreign Minister Marco Rubio spoke to Fidan on Monday and that Turkey thanked for the “orientation and facilitation of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine”. Rubio “welcomed the possibility of an immediate ceasefire”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously proposed direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul from Thursday. He reacted to the demands of Germany, France, Great Britain and Poland after a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine from this Monday. However, Putin did not explicitly addressed this.
On Saturday, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), French President Emmanuel Macron, the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in Kiev.
