Political party Centered on People announces end of alliance with Enrique Márquez

CARACAS — Members of the national leadership of the People-Centered party released a statement this Monday in which they point out that the former presidential candidate Enrique Marquez He allegedly deviated from the organization’s political line. Subsequently, the general secretary of the party, Frederick Villegas, stated that there is no institutional decision that establishes a formal break with the leader.

The document, dated March 9, indicates that the organization supported Márquez’s presidential candidacy in 2024 considering that it represented the defense of the vote as a political instrument and the Constitution as an institutional framework for Venezuela.

“Different posture”

In the text, the signatories maintain that, after his release, Márquez assumed positions different from the policy promoted by the organization. The letter also mentions recent public statements by the leader and political contacts after his release from prison.

The letter also refers to Márquez’s relationship with the former president of the Spanish Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, in the context of political efforts mentioned in the document itself.

Likewise, the text indicates that the party rejects “all those who have contributed to the devastation”, and adds that “their names are unnecessary: Venezuelans know them, naming them would be granting them legitimacy.”

The letter also indicates that “there is an immense majority that promotes change and a minority that clings to power with a hindrance that feigns opposition.”

Formal decision

After the document was disseminated, the general secretary of Centered on People, Frederick Villegas, declared that there is no formal decision within the organization that implies Márquez’s departure from the party.

Villegas pointed out that the party’s official spokesperson corresponds to the current leadership and denied that there has been an institutional break with the former presidential candidate.

The statement was sent with the signatures of members of the party’s board of directors, including José Luis Faría, Roberto Rodríguez and Yamil Tovar; and it was submitted to the National Electoral Council (CNE) and has a seal of receipt from the organization, reported the Punto de Corte news portal.
