Police officer shoots driver who hit him

MIAMI.- In a dramatic incident, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a shooting that occurred when a Robbery Intervention Department (RID) officer attempted to stop a white Dodge Challenger in the area of ​​NW 70th Street and NW 18th Avenue, in Miami.

According to reports from investigators, the officer after activating his emergency equipment for a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle fled at high speed. The officer issued an alert, and police officers swarmed the area looking for the car, which ultimately crashed into a power pole at NW 63rd Street and NW 21st Avenue.

In the confrontation, the driver accelerated towards an RID officer, hitting him and leaving him pinned against his vehicle. In response, the officer discharged his firearm, wounding the driver. Both were taken by the Miami-Dade body to the hospital. According to the police, the driver Virgilio Bernard Francés, 38, is in critical but stable condition, while the officer is recovering from his injuries at home.

Charlie Frank Harris, 40, a passenger in the vehicle, was detained for questioning. The investigation is still ongoing to clarify the details of this incident that has left the community in suspense.
