Peruvian Diego Elías is seeded in the Canadian Squash Open

CALGARY, Canadato – For the first time in its history the most important squash tournament in Canada It will feature the participation of some of the best players in the world, led by Peruvian Diego Elías.

Calgary, in the province of Alberta, will once again host the Canadian Men’s Open, this time at the PSA World Tour Silver level.

The event, presented by AirSprint Private Aviation, will be held from March 3 to 7, 2024 on the all-glass court at the Bow Valley Athletic Club, where it has been held for the last three years.

This year the event will have a prize pool of $78,000 for the first time, which has attracted six of the 22 best players in the world.

Apart from Diego Elías, seeded and current world number two, participants from 17 countries include the Egyptians Mazen Hesham, number 7, Marwan Elshorbagy, number 10 (representing England), and Yousef Soliman, number 12; Qatari Abdulla Al-Tamimi, number 21; and the Swiss Nicolas Müller, number 22.

The Latin American contingent also includes the Colombian Juan Camilo Vargas, number 50 of the ranking world.

The Canadian Men’s Open supports the Kid Sport program, which subsidizes the participation in sport of minors from families with limited resources. It also takes advantage of the designation of squash as an Olympic sport starting in 2028 to promote it and boost its growth from the most basic to professional level.

Elías comes from winning, last February 4 in Detroit, the Motor City Open in his first title of the season.

“I am very excited for the rest of the season,” said the Peruvian player. “I had lost my last five or six finals and I needed this win. Hopefully I can win some more championships during this campaign.”
