Peru reinforces controls on the entry of Brazilian fans for the final of the Copa Libertadores

LIMA.- Peru reinforced its immigration controls in the face of the entry of thousands of Brazilian fans of Flamengo and Palmeiras who will attend the final of the Copa Libertadores 2025on Saturday in Lima, the National Superintendence of Migration reported this Tuesday.

It is estimated that 50,000 fans of both teams will arrive from Brazil by air and land to accompany their teams at the Monumental stadium, with capacity for 80,000 spectators, according to the authorities.

The measures will allow “to safely attend to the migratory flow of Brazilian fans who will arrive in the country via 100 charter flights” and “commercial flights through the Jorge Chávez International Airport”, which serves the Peruvian capital, Migraciones indicated.

The national superintendent of Migrations, Armando García, held a coordination meeting on Tuesday with directors of Flamengo of Rio de Janeiro and Palmeiras of Sao Paulo at the Brazilian embassy in Lima.

“Fla” is the most popular club in Brazil, while Verdão, the most champion team in the Brazilian league with twelve stars, also has a loyal fan base.

The winner will become the first Brazilian team to win the tournament four times. Independiente from Argentina, with seven crowns, is the most successful team in the contest.

The Monumental stadium in Lima was already the scene of another final of the main club tournament in America, that of 2019, which crowned Flamengo (2-1) over River Plate of Argentina.

That edition was the first to be held under the current single-game final format on a neutral field.

“Bolillo” Gómez will continue to lead El Salvador

Colombian coach Hernán Darío Gómez will continue to lead the El Salvador soccer team, despite failing in his attempt to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the future president of the local Federation announced this Tuesday.

The Salvadoran team, which has not played in a World Cup since Spain 1982, sealed its elimination on November 18 by losing 3-0 against Panama.

“For me to remove ‘Bolillo’ at this moment is to go back and lose ten or eleven months,” said Yamil Bukele, who will preside over the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut) after becoming the only candidate.
