ASSUMPTION.- Paraguay proposes to present the candidacy of Assumption as headquarters of the 2027 Pan American Gameswhich was withdrawn to the Colombian city of Barranquilla last week, government authorities and the country’s Olympic movement announced on Thursday.
Camilo Pérez López Moreirathe president of Paraguayan Olympic Committeepointed out in a press conference that the Assumption can be “a super headquarters for the next Panamerican Games”.
He added that the president of the country, Santiago Pena, signed on Thursday the “letter of intent” addressed to Panama Sports for the Paraguayan capital to present its candidacy.
It would be the first time that Assumption would organize the largest multidisciplinary sporting event on the continent.
Peña expressed his government’s support for the project.
“Paraguay is ready for great things!”Peña wrote on his account on X, the social network previously known as Twitter. “We are applying to host the Panamerican Games convinced that when we propose and work together we can take our country to the top.”
Peña assumed the presidency in August of last year and will conclude his term in 2028.
López mentioned in his press conference that Assumption hosted in October 2022 the South American Games and that you will receive the second edition of the Youth Pan American Games in 2025.
The leader highlighted that Assumption It has 90% of the sports infrastructure and that the focus of the investment would be on the construction of a Pan American Village to house the athletes.
