Pacquiao invades Mayweather’s legacy and heats up the most anticipated fight

The legendary Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has made a strategic coup outside the ring by assuming control of a gym in hollywood that previously was linked to Floyd Mayweather Jr., in the midst of growing tension for their expected revenge.

The new space, which will open this summer under the name Pacquiao Prime Boxing, represents not only a business bet, but also a symbolic move in the run-up to the fight scheduled for September 19 at the Sphere Las Vegas.

While the Filipino advances in his preparation, the media focus has turned to the differences around the nature of the combat. Mayweather has described it as an exhibition, while Pacquiao insists it is a professional fight.

“He knows what he signed,” Pacquiao stated, making clear his position on the agreements established between both parties.

Contractual conflict and possible legal battle

From the Filipino’s entourage, the statements have been forceful. Jas Mathur, director of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, assured that there are multiple signed contracts that support the holding of an official fight.

“There are three different agreements and they are all signed. This is not an exhibition,” explained Mathur, who also warned of possible legal consequences if the agreed terms are not respected.

According to his version, Mayweather would have already received a financial advance, which reinforces the validity of the agreement. The situation, however, could be complicated due to the American’s other commitments, including possible fights with figures such as Mike Tyson.

A strategic movement with a message included

Beyond the conflict, the acquisition of the gym adds a layer of symbolism to the rivalry. Pacquiao even monitored the space, pointing out structural changes and anticipating the removal of images of Mayweather.

The center will operate as a private high-performance space, focused on professional boxers and elite athletes, with plans to expand internationally.

“We want to help develop the next generation of fighters,” Pacquiao explained, highlighting his long-term vision within the sport.

Legacy at stake inside and outside the ring

At 47 years old, Pacquiao remains motivated, not only for the rematch, but also for his legacy in boxing. Although he avoids proclaiming himself as the best in history, he recognizes the impact of his career.

“I let people decide who is the greatest,” said the Filipino, who has made history by winning titles in different decades.

The possible rematch against Mayweather – undefeated in his career – not only revives one of boxing’s most lucrative rivalries, but could also redefine the narrative between both icons.
