The possible departure of Max Verstappen from Formula 1 ignited debate in the paddock and provoked the reaction of two of his great rivals: Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who described this option as a huge loss for motorsport.
The Dutch driver, world champion between 2021 and 2024, has shown on several occasions his discontent with the new technical regulations of the category, especially due to the energy management of hybrid engines and speed limitations.
Piastri did not hesitate to praise the current leader on the grid: “It would be a great loss for the sport and for us, the drivers, who want to compete against the best.” The Australian also recalled that Verstappen has been the great reference in Formula 1 in recent years.
For his part, Norris was even more direct: “It would be deplorable and a loss for the sport. He is one of the best drivers Formula 1 has ever had.”
Verstappen, 28, is going through a difficult start to the season with Red Bull Racing, surpassed by McLaren Formula 1 Team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and Scuderia Ferrari in several events on the 2026 calendar.
While rumors about his future grow, his own rivals make it clear that Formula 1 would lose one of its biggest stars if he decides to leave.
