Nicolás Maduro demands that the US ‘get its nose out’ of Venezuela: ‘It’s the people who rule’

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro He urged the United States to “get its nose out” from the Caribbean country, after the North American government recognized the candidate of the majority opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia, as the winner of the presidential election last Sunday. This, despite the fact that the Venezuelan electoral body declared the victory of the Chavista leader.

“The United States should get its nose out of Venezuela because the sovereign people are the ones who rule in Venezuela, who put, who elect, who say, who decide,” said the head of state, whose statements were broadcast by the state channel VTV.

Previously, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement in which he said that Washington concludes, based on “overwhelming evidence”that González Urrutia was the winner of the presidential elections on July 28 in the South American country.

In response, Maduro said: “The process in Venezuela, legally, constitutionally, institutionally, is still to be completed, and the United States today says that it has the records and the evidence.”

He also reiterated the claim that the electoral system “suffered a brutal attack” that had the objective of “preventing electoral results,” which is why – he explained – he filed a motion before the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to to clarify “everything that needs to be clarified” about the elections.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council still hasn’t shown the minutes

This Thursday, the Electoral Chamber of the highest court declared the appeal competent and announced an investigation in order to “certify, in an unrestricted manner, the election results,” for which he called on the 10 candidates to appear on August 2.

Maduro said he hopes that “everyone goes,” and he referred, especially, to González Urrutia: “I hope that this gentleman has the minimum courage (…) that is needed to assume political positions and attend the mandatory summons of the TSJ, there we will see each other face to face.”

On the other hand, the president assured that, in a conversation with the president of the Supreme Court and also head of the Electoral Chamber, Caryslia Rodríguez – openly declared a militant of the government formation and enthusiastic supporter of Chavismo -, he said that They are “prepared” to present all the minutes, “down to the last one”.

For its part, the majority opposition, grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)says he has more than 80 percent of the minutes thanks to the work of witnesses and table members, which – he insists – give victory to his standard-bearer.

Meanwhile, the National Electoral Council (CNE) After the first bulletin, no further information has been issued, while the electoral directors have called and cancelled two public statements, despite the fact that the legal deadline for the totalisation of the minutes expired on Tuesday.

The official silence, which includes the fall of the CNE websiteprevents new information about the elections from being known.
