The low season for New York Yankees is still hot on the market. Now the new vision to strengthen the team for 2025 is to look for more hitting and, the name of the Venezuelan Luis Arraez is synonymous with that specialty, which you are considering.
The MLB batting champion three years in a row was announced as a bargaining chip for the San Diego Padres and the Yankees are willing to send players in order to have their services.
New York also contacted the Dodgers to inquire about Gavin Lux, who could be available after Los Angeles strengthened its infield with the signing of Korean Hyeseong Kim. Lux has two more years of contractual control, compared to just one for Arráez.
Both players are being considered to fill the void at second base left by Venezuelan Gleyber Torres, who signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers as a free agent. If the Yankees acquire Arráez or Lux, they would presumably keep Jazz Chisholm Jr. at third base.
This will be the last harvest in which Arráez is eligible for arbitration and it is estimated that he can receive a salary of $13.7 million. That is why the San Diego Padres have him among the players they can transfer to lower payroll costs, and it is the approximate amount that the Yankees would have to pay if they close a deal.
Arráez finished the regular season with a .314 average and became the first Padres player to win a batting title since Tony Gwynn in 1997.
