The commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silverrecognized Thursday that the format opened this year in the Star set (All-Star Game) “It didn’t work” And they are working to improve it.
In February, the American Basketball League experienced a new All-Star Game model in an attempt to stop the pronounced decline of interest in the event.
Instead of the traditional duel between the east and west conferences, the NBA tried with a minitor of four teams that faced themselves in the semifinals and final.
The selected stars were divided into three of those four combined while the other was made up of the young people who won the previous Raising Stars event (‘Emerging stars’).
“We are a brand of sports and entertainment and emphasis (the format) for this year’s stars game in San Francisco as an entertainment product (…) and I don’t think it has worked,” Silver admitted.
NBA looks for the formula to improve the star game
The commissioner made these comments during a press conference in New York in which he announced exploratory work for the creation of a new professional league in Europe.
Accused of not taking the All-Star seriously for years, the NBA stars demonstrated a higher level of effort and commitment in the semifinals of the San Francisco edition.
The final, however, suffered long interruptions for distractions of all kinds that introduced the NBA to avoid the boredom of the public. The players never got into rhythm and the event looked more like a contest of shots and acrobatics than a competitive match.
“We have made enormous progress” but “we are not at the point where we have created a game of the stars of which we and our players can be proud. So we return to work,” Silver concluded.
The next edition will be held on February 15, 2026 at the Intuit Dome, the brand new Los Angeles Clippers court.
