NATO Secretary General receives Zelenskyj, Scholz and others

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the heads of state and government of major European countries for an informal summit on Wednesday. According to NATO, the meeting in Brussels is about further military aid for Ukraine, especially in defending against Russian air attacks.

Rutte is expecting, among others, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Britain is expected to be represented by Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

A good month before the new US President Donald Trump is sworn in on January 20th, there will also be talk of his plans for a quick end to the war. Trump recently called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Ukraine and announced a cut in military aid to Kiev. The future of Ukraine is also one of the main topics of the EU summit on Thursday. For this purpose, the 27 heads of state and government meet with Zelensky.
