The 25 -year -old American won the Óscar To the best actress For his first role in a great film, “Anora”, in which he captivated the public as a challenging sex worker who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch and learns harsh lessons about the division between rich and poor.
Madison achieved a great criticism success in Sean Baker’s film, which first conquered the audience at the Cannes Festival, where he won the Golden Palm.
It was perhaps the most surprising winner of the night, surpassing the great favorite Demi Moore (“The substance), Cynthia Erivo (” Wicked “), Fernanda Torres (” I’m still here) and wrapped in scandals, Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”).
“This is a dream come true,” said Madison, upon receiving his statuette.
“Anora” tells Ani’s story, a sex worker who makes a living in Manhattan’s luxury clubs.
His luck seems to change when he meets Ivan, a young man who turns out to be the son of a Russian oligarch.
Ivan quickly immerses Ani in his life of parties, drugs and sex and, during an impulsive trip to Las Vegas, marries her.
But the rapid outrageous marriage to Ivan’s parents, who arrive in New York to undo the union.
Ani is forced, together with a group of thugs working for Ivan’s parents, to undertake a crazy search to find the fugitive husband for the “little Odessa” of Brooklyn (Brighton Beach).
When finding the young man, they will also make an awkward trip back to the city of sin to cancel the marriage.
Madison trained for three months to dominate the dance in the bar and frequented sex clubs to document on paper.
He also perfected his Brooklyn accent and learned basic Russian.
Modern Cinderella
Baker, who won the awards for the best direction, edition and original script this Sunday, was noticed for the first time in Madison in “Once upon a time in Hollywood”, of Quentin Tarantino, in which he obtained a small role as a member of the hippie hippie sect of Charles Manson.
The American filmmaker said he captivated his presence, and that seeing his role in the new installment of the “Scream. Shout” (2022) horror franchise cemented his interest.
“I have never worked with an actress who has delivered more,” he told AFP in Cannes last year.
“It was all that I thought it would be (…) I know it will be a star.”
In “Anora”, Madison has the role of a modern Cinderella who sees his fairy tale, with his float becoming back into Palabaza, and his white horses, in mice.
In a 28 -minute scene, he hits, shouts and even bites the Russian and Armenian thugs that come to make her come to reason.
Madison filmed all these action scenes.
But the role looks like the opposite pole of the actress, who describes herself as shy.
“I am a little tired of talking about myself (…) Sometimes I am ashamed to talk about myself,” he told Deadline in February.
“It seemed fun”
Born in California on March 25, 1999, daughter of two psychologists, Madison grew up in Los Angeles without dreaming of Hollywood.
This horse lover, educated at home, trained as a rider before the bug of interpretation in adolescence.
“I thought it seemed fun or that it was a safe place to explore all those things without having to do it in real life,” he told The New York Times in an interview published in January.
Still teenager, he made the leap to fame as the rebel daughter of Pamela Adlon in the television series “Better Things” (2016-2022).
Rodó “Once upon a time in Hollywood” between seasons, and then got the role in “Scream. Shouts.”
Madison is also part of the Apple TV+ Miniseries “The Lady of the Lake”, starring Natalie Portman.
The actress is very close to her parents and her twin brother, and avoids social networks. “I understand the curiosity that a character awakens in the cinema, but I have never really understood the curiosity that an actor awakens,” he told Times.
