Migration policy US authorities begin operations against migrants in Chicago

Donald Trump has announced massive “mass deportations” of migrants – and has already begun. Now the responsible authorities are targeting Chicago.

Officials from the immigration agency ICE began “targeted operations” against migrants without residence permits in the US metropolis of Chicago around a week after President Donald Trump took office. ICE said they are being supported by law enforcement agencies such as the FBI. The goal is to “enforce U.S. immigration laws and ensure public safety and national security by keeping potentially dangerous criminal migrants out of our communities.”

Authorities receive more powers against immigrants in the USA

The US broadcaster CNN wrote about a “blitz” in which several federal authorities were given additional powers to arrest undocumented immigrants in the USA. The exact extent was initially unclear. However, the broadcaster reported that it was an operation lasting several days that would extend across the entire country.

Trump’s administration has pushed ahead with the arrest and deportation of migrants without residence permits in recent days. So far, however, the actions have fallen short of what the president and his people had boldly announced as an unprecedented deportation program.
