US President Joe Biden urges Israel to be cautious with regard to Iran. Donald Trump sees it differently – and advises the country to directly target the biggest threat.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump – unlike US President Joe Biden – has spoken out in favor of an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Referring to a statement by Biden about Israel’s possible response to the recent Iranian missile attack, Trump said: “His answer should have been: Target the nuclear facilities first and worry about the rest later”said the Republican at a campaign rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
When asked whether he would support such action by Israel, Biden said on Wednesday: “The answer is no. We will discuss with the Israelis what they will do.” All G7 countries are of the opinion that Israel has the right to respond to the Iranian missile attack. “But the answer should be proportionate”said the Democratic head of state. He had previously urged Israel to carefully consider its response to the Iranian missile attack.
Donald Trump calls for Israel to attack Iran
Trump said this in response to a question from a participant at his campaign appearance in Fayetteville: “They asked him: ‘What do you think about Iran, would you attack Iran?’ And he says, ‘As long as they don’t attack the nuclear stuff.'” That was wrong of Biden, said the former head of state. “Isn’t that what you should meet? I mean, it’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons”Trump continued. “If they want to do it, they will do it”Trump added, referring to Israel. “But we’ll find out whatever their plans are.”
On Tuesday, the Revolutionary Guards, Iran’s elite force, fired around 200 rockets at Israel. The attack came after a series of targeted killings by Israel targeting key players in Iran’s network of non-state allies, including senior Revolutionary Guard commanders.
Tehran was reacting to the Israeli military offensive in southern Lebanon against the allied Hezbollah militia and the killing of its leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then said that Iran was responsible for the missile attack “made a big mistake” and will “pay for it”.
Former President Trump has so far remained remarkably silent about the recent escalation in the Middle East. At the beginning of the week, he only released a sharp statement in which he blamed Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris for the escalating tensions.
