Michigan primary: Arab Americans give Biden a lesson over Gaza

During the Democratic primary in Michigan, the Arab community organized a protest against the US President. They accuse him of not doing enough for the people of Gaza. That could cost Joe Biden his office in the fall.

If a candidate receives 81 percent of the vote, he or she can claim a landslide victory. Joe Biden won the Democratic primary in Michigan with exactly that number. It’s a victory, no question. And yet the US President must be worried.

The Arab community in Michigan has been mobilizing against Biden and his Middle East policies for months. Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who herself has Palestinian roots, is one of the movement’s leading figures. She refused to vote for Biden in the primary and said afterwards that she was “proud” of it. Tlaib had checked the “uncommitted” option on the ballot.
