Milan 2026 Olympic flame

Not even Zeus, God of the heavens, will be able to prevent it: the sacred flame of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be lit on Wednesday in Greece, although the ceremony will take place indoors.

The lighting ceremony of the Olympic flame usually takes place in the ruins of the 2,600-year-old Temple of Hera, near the stadium where the Olympic Games were born in 776 BC

But the weather forecasts in the Peloponnese peninsula predict rain for Wednesday, so the sun’s rays will not be able to light the parabolic mirror used by the actresses dressed as ancient priestesses, as is customary in this ceremony.

For this reason, the organizers have moved the ceremony to the archaeological museum of Olympia, where one of the most famous classical sculptures in Greece is located, Hermes with the child Dionysus by Praxiteles.
