Media: Trump extends deadline in the customs dispute with China for another 90 days

A few hours before the break in the customs dispute between China and the United States, US President Donald Trump has extended the period by the US media by another 90 days. Trump signed a corresponding decree on Monday, the “Wall Street Journal” and the broadcaster CNBC reported on Monday. The US President had previously praised the “pretty good” negotiations with Beijing.

Trump had imposed high punitive tariffs against China at the beginning of April, Beijing reacted with against tariffs, whereupon Trump increased his tariffs. In the meantime, the bilateral customs level was well over 100 percent.

In mid -May, the two countries then agreed to reduce the surcharges for 90 days in discussions in Geneva. This agreement should expire this Tuesday. Most recently, high-ranking representatives of the US government had spoken out for a possible extension of the deadline.
