In view of the criminal proceedings against him, former US President Donald Trump has accused the government of his successor Joe Biden of Nazi methods, according to media reports. The US Democrats led a “Gestapo government,” said Trump, according to US media, referring to the brutal Secret State Police (Gestapo) in Nazi Germany.
According to reports, the comments were made on Saturday evening during a meeting with leading members and donors of the Republican Party at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. A donor therefore forwarded an audio recording of the statements to the media.
Biden's campaign team said on Sunday that the likely Republican presidential candidate's recent tirades showed once again that Trump's campaign was “all about him,” “his anger, his revenge and his lies.”
Trump has been on trial in New York since mid-April for covering up a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. He is accused of concealing the payment by forging business documents. This is the first criminal trial in history against a former US president.
The 77-year-old right-wing populist is criminally charged in three other cases. Two cases involve his massive attempts to subsequently overturn his election defeat against Biden in 2020, and another case involves his taking secret government documents to his private estate in the state of Florida. Trump denies the allegations and repeatedly portrays himself publicly as the victim of a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
