Mascherano defends Rodrigo De Paul tooth and nail at Inter Miami

The coach of Inter Miami, Javier Mascheranohighlighted this Friday the level of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, one of the big mid-year signings in the North American League (MLS).

The world champion with the Albiceleste in 2022 arrived this summer on loan from Atlético de Madrid and has become a central piece of the Las Garzas midfield, as well as a trusted guardian of Lionel Messi.

“For us the most important thing is performance on the field,” Mascherano said at a press conference. “He is a boy who has a gift, one has to understand that in many situations it is not how much you run but how you run.”

“Rodrigo has given us a lot since his arrival, he is a boy who gives us versatility, he can play from various places and then he gives us all his personality,” he added.

De Paul, 31, arrived to reinforce a half of the field that some time later lost options due to the departure of Federico Redondo to Spanish football (Elche) and Benjamín Cremaschi to Italian football (Parma).

The former Atleti midfielder has played nine league games, in which he made four assists. His only goal for Inter was in the group stage of the Leagues Cup, in which his team was a finalist.

Mascherano did not give further clues about the presence of De Paul and Messi, summoned by the Argentine team for the friendlies in October, for next week’s pending league match against Atlanta United.

The game on Saturday, October 11, coincides with the clash that the Albicelestes will face against Venezuela a day earlier in Miami.

“It’s something we’re talking about and you’ll find out,” the coach said.

In search of the lead in the Eastern Conference and without winning in their last two games, Inter visits New England Revolution on Saturday.
