María Elvira Salazar accuses Chevron of financing the Maduro regime

MIAMI- The congresswoman for Florida, María Elvira Salazar, accused the oil company Chevron of being complicit with the regime of Nicolás Maduro, pointing out that “its operations in Venezuela are fueling a dictatorship that is maintained thanks to the suffering and lack of freedom of the Venezuelan people.” .

According to Salazar, Chevron paid $300 million in taxes to the regime last year for the sale of oil, which constitutes, in his words, a “despicable and monstrous” act that betrays the democratic values of the continent.

The congresswoman described Chevron’s actions as “a shame” and maintained that the company must assume its responsibility for financing the Maduro regime.

“Cancel operations in Venezuela”

Salazar called on President Donald Trump’s administration to cancel Chevron’s operating licenses in Venezuela, asserting that such a measure is necessary to stop corporate complicity in perpetuating the dictatorship.

“In Venezuela, Chevron is not only allowing oppression, but is also benefiting economically from it,” said the congresswoman, underlining the seriousness of these actions.

These statements add to the criticism of companies that, despite international sanctions, continue to operate in Venezuela, facilitating the flow of resources that strengthen the regime and perpetuate human rights violations in the Caribbean country.
