Washington.- Israel must stop bombing Loop so that the Palestinian group Hamas can free the hostages, the US Secretary of State said on Sunday, Marco Rubio.
“I think both the Israelis and the entire world recognize that the hostages cannot be released in the middle of the attacks, so the attacks will have to stop,” Rubio told CBS News.
“There can’t be a war in the middle of all this”said the top US diplomatic representative.
In an exchange of messages with a CNN reporter known this Sunday, US President Donald Trump responded affirmatively when asked if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was willing to end the military campaign in Gaza.
The negotiators of Israel and Hamas They were scheduled to hold talks in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, and Netanyahu expressed hope that the hostages held in Gaza could be freed within days.
The diplomatic push comes after the Palestinian group’s positive response to Trump’s roadmap for an end to the fighting and the release of captives in Gaza in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
Rubio, who appeared on several Sunday shows about the situation in Gaza, said on NBC that there were “logistical challenges” to address to pave the way for the hostages’ release.
He also predicted that long-term goals will be “even more difficult” to achieve, in terms of how the war-torn territory and the disarmament of Hamas will be governed.
Trump told CNN he expected clarity “soon” on whether the Palestinian group was committed to peace.
He added that if Hamas refused to give up power, it would face “total extinction.”
