BERLIN.- The Berlin Prosecutor’s Office has presented charges before the Provincial Court against a man for having allegedly sedated and raped at least 14 women and recorded it on video, although within the framework of the investigation, alleged crimes against a total of 58 could be verified.
Specifically, the Prosecutor’s Office charges him with 22 crimes of rape in especially aggravating circumstances, accompanied by serious bodily injuries, as well as violation of the right to one’s own image in all cases.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the man, 68 years old and in preventive detention since March 3, sedated his victims, whom he had met through online dating platforms, with various sleeping pills in combination with alcohol and subsequently raped them.
During the interrogation, the women declared that they did not remember the alleged events, which they were not aware of until they were shown the videos of the crimes.
The police in Verden an der Aller, in the federal state of Lower Saxony (eastern Germany), which at the beginning of 2025 had initiated proceedings against a man, now deceased, for similar accusations, put the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office on the trail of the accused.
By analyzing the man’s chat messages, the police discovered that the Berliner was one of his interlocutors, as a result of which, at the beginning of March 2025, proceedings were also initiated against the now accused.
In March 2025, the defendant’s home in Berlin was searched for pornographic material, in the absence of evidence of more serious crimes, and it was not until almost a year later, in February 2026, that a forensic expert found numerous videos of sexual crimes, allegedly committed by the man, on a seized data carrier, which led to a new search of the home and his arrest on March 3.
Of the total of 58 alleged victims, ten have not yet been identified, and in the case of another thirty, the investigation is still ongoing. In three cases, sufficient evidence of a crime has not been found to date.
In the case of a woman who was allegedly raped between 2010 and 2014 on 36 occasions by the accused, the Prosecutor’s Office has been forced to archive the case as the statute of limitations expired when it became aware of them.
Unlike other cases, in the videos of these events it was not possible to unequivocally determine whether sedative substances were administered to the victim, which would be considered an act of violence that would extend the statute of limitations for the crime to 20 years, compared to five years if there is no use of force.
In addition to the conviction of the accused, who so far has not commented on the facts, the Prosecutor’s Office requests that a preventive detention order be issued after serving a prison sentence.
