CARACAS. – The Maiquetía International Airport Institute (IAIM) announced this Tuesday that as of Tuesday, September 1, 2026 Operations will formally begin in the temporary terminals enabled to serve national and international flights.
The measure will allow airport operations to be progressively resumed while the process of reconstruction of the facilities continues, after the two devastating earthquakes recorded on June 24 in Venezuelawhich caused damage to infrastructure, including runways.
As a result of the damage, the operations of the main Venezuelan airport were suspended, forcing the authorities to enable temporary airports to guarantee the continuity of the country’s air connectivity.
Temporary terminals
According to a statement released by the IAIM in X, the temporary terminals were enabled under quality standards and with technology to guarantee passenger attention.
The reopening will allow national and international air connections to be reestablished from Maiquetía, while reconstruction work in the areas affected by the earthquakes progresses.
The airport organization did not specify in its statement the extent of the damage recorded on the runways nor did it offer details about the planned schedule for the definitive recovery of the facilities.
Passengers must confirm their flights
The IAIM noted that passengers whose flights have been affected should contact the respective airlines directly to verify the rescheduling your trips to temporary terminals.
It also asked users to stay tuned to its official channels for new announcements and updates related to the operations.
The statement also does not detail which airlines will resume their flights nor specify the destinations that will be operational from September 1.
The reopening of the temporary terminals occurs while the reconstruction process of the Maiquetía airport continues, a strategic infrastructure for Venezuela’s air connectivity and one of the main entry and exit gates of the country.
